@meljens says:

I’ve decided I really quite like Twitter. Okay, really like Twitter. While I frequently learn things about people through their tweets that I’m not sure I wanna know, I can’t help myself. I keep going back for more. Like, there’s a fingerprint smudge on my iPhone screen above the little birdie icon that I worry is permanent.

There aren’t nearly enough hours in the day for me to be a frequent tweeter, but I am becoming an excellent voyeur. I mean, from a certain point of view, it’s all kinda Rear Window, peepy stalkerish, right? Even the lingo. I “follow” John Green, Sherman Alexie, Libba Bray, and Lord Voldemort from a not-quite-respectable distance. And they have no idea that I’m doing it.

Anyway.

I keep trying to think of interesting things to say–in 140 characters or less. Some things are only interesting in 160 characters or more. Occasionally I come up with something I think needs to be said. Or I come up with a list. Love lists. More than I love Twitter.

Caught on yet?

Yes, absolutely. My Top Ten Twitterers:

John Green (@realjohngreen). Funny smart smart funny. Occasionally poignant. Just like his books.

Libba Bray (@libbabray). Funny smart smart funny. Occasionally a little bit fabulously Out There. Just like…

Salon (@salon). In my crazy life, I sometimes have to trust someone else to feed me the important news in bite size pieces. Today I consumed bits of Greece, the Kardashian saga, presidential politics, and the history of candy (with varying degrees of pleasure), and learned Steve Jobs’s last words.

Lord Voldemort (@Lord_Voldemort7). Who knew someone so evil could be so witty?

Sherman Alexie (@Sherman_Alexie). For instance. His six-word short story tweet: “Stung, he couldn’t find the EpiPen.” And, “Imagine the crazy hunger of the first person who dared to eat a lobster.”

MV Tweets (@mvtweets). Because somehow the world just seems like a better place when I know what’s going on on Martha’s Vineyard.

Maureen Johnson (@maureenjohnson). As if her books aren’t treat enough, she’s a prolific and hugely entertaining tweeter–it’s kinda like getting lots and lots of beautifully quirky novellas. “‘What’s the best wedding gift to give?’ I’m very traditional. I always give a ferret and a ball of rubber bands.”

Cover Me Songs (@covermesongs). I am such a sucker for a good cover. Matt Weddle doing “Hey Ya”? Girl in a Coma and “Femme Fatale”? The Muppets’ “Green Album”. Heard about ’em here first.

Jessica Goldstein (@jessicagolds). Style and Arts reporter for the Washington Post. Funny smart…enough said.

Go Fug Yourself (@fuggirls). Mocking those who make a mockery of fashion. Of course, I have to balance the merciless criticism with @netaporter and @worldmcqueen, but I am clear about my obsessions. In case of a fire, my family is very clear on the fact that each person is responsible for grabbing a bag or two from my closet before escaping to safety.
