Love lists. Love them. Hence, I might find myself blogging regularly for the first time ever in my bloggy life. On Tuesdays.
We’re having a kinda haphazard Harry Potter marathon here. Meaning, not in completely the right order, and it’s taking a really really long time. Which describes much of my life, actually. But, on topic, the series got me thinking about movies made from beloved books. So often, it isn’t…well…right (don’t even get me started on Judy Garland’s Dorothy Gale), but sometimes…well…

My Ten Fave Book-to-Movie Adaptations:
10. Bride and Prejudice (“Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. I’m such a sucker for a good Bollywood number.)
9. The Lord of the Rings. (J.R.R. Tolkein. Okay, I confess, I never read the books until I saw the first movie. I had to know which of the Fellowship survived until the end.)
8. Charlotte’s Web (E.B. White. “Zowie, you gotta agree, the greatest hog in history…”)
7. To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee. Gregory Peck. ‘Nuff said.)
6. Howl’s Moving Castle (Diana Wynn Jones. Love her. Hiyao Miyazaki. LOVE him.)
5. Ten Things I Hate About You (“The Taming of the Shrew”, William Shakespeare. Yeah, yeah, it’s a play, technically, not a book. It’s still on my bookshelf.)
4. High Fidelity (Nick Hornby. I suspect I’m truly a bigger fan of John Cusack than of the movie, but still…)
3. Harry Potter. All. (J.K. Rowling. Would I love the movies if I’d never read the books? Who
cares. Love them.)
2. The Princess Bride (William Goldman. “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”)
1. Clueless (“Emma” by Jane Austen. Incomparable. Amy Heckerling. Fabulous.)
